Description:

Human brain tractography has focused strongly on the visualization of the long-range connection fibers, linking remote areas in the brain, or sending projections from the brain to downstream areas. Little attention has been paid to the short association fibers, also known as U-fibers – which connect proximal cortical areas, and constitute the majority of white matter connections in the human brain. U-fibers play an important role in brain function, development, plasticity and disease. Visualizing U-fibers poses using diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) is methodologically challenging. The aim of the project is to develop tools to allow quantification of the U-shaped fibers, using available data of healthy and diseased brains.
