Description:

Building a GUI for streamlining and integrating multiple software packages for brain imaging data

At the Institute of Neuroscience (IoNS) and the Neuroimaging platform (NIMA) we are using various software packages to analyze brain imaging data. Whereas some of these software packages are widely used in the brain imaging communities (f.e. FSL, Freesurfer, SPM) and have been written by third parties, others are home-written. These software packages and pieces of code are used for various aspects of brain imaging data such as functional MRI, diffusion imaging data, cortical thickness analysis, VBM, etc. In various cases, researchers use multiple brain imaging methods in the same subjects which requires that data from multiple modalities have to be integrated. This implies that data that were analyzed by a particular program need to be combined with data that were analyzed by another program. This necessitates computational and programming skills that are often lacking by the end-users at IoNS who often have medical, biomedical or neuroscience background. We are therefore looking for a candidate with excellent programming skills (Python, Matlab), who likes to interact with people with a medical background and who has good communication skills. His task will be to write a user-friendly GUI that allows users to easily integrate their multi-modal brain imaging data.
